Unlike siblings who normally fight for the same pencil, pen or storybook, P. Karthik (Class III) and P. Ramya (Class VI) enjoy each other’s company and bond over art.
Their love for theme-based drawing paved the way for gaining top spots in the Doodle 4 Google-2015 competition.
From among lakhs of contestants from across the country, these students of Sri Prakash Vidyaniketan were able to find a place in the top 12 finalists’ list of the contest.
The themes
With the theme, ‘If I could create something for India, it would be…’, the competition was held in three categories — Group 1, Group 2 and Group 3. After doing extensive research for about a week and taking part in art room discussions, Karthik said that he was able to come out with his own doodle.
“I have been wondering why the word ‘plastic’ is always connected with something devastating. Since I love toys and cars, I wanted to link my message with a four-wheeler and that’s how ‘Plastic to earth-machine city’ came into existence,” he says.
His doodle represents a car that converts non-biodegradable plastic into soil with the application of renewable energy. Explaining her concept, Ramya says that she wants to promote greenery through her doodle, ‘Green city dream’. “What could be the best way to do it than encapsulating several elements in a single frame? With encouragement coming in leaps and bounds from all quarters, we were able to make it to the final round,” she reasons.
The duo said that their father P. Krishna and mother Devi, and drawing teacher Suresh inspired them to make a mark in the art world.
