Seasonal festivals planned to draw more tourists

To begin with, tribal festival to set the mood in Araku Valley

Keeping in view the upcoming tourism season and to draw tourists from across the country to the scenic Araku Valley, the AP Tourism Development Corporation is planning a series of festivals based on seasons to showcase the natural beauty and culture of the region. The first in the line is a tribal festival proposed to be held in August.

“This is the first year where we are focussing on doing seasonal festivals apart from the annual Visakha Utsav planned later this year. We have written to the Superintendent of Police for clearance to conduct tribal festival in August. Similarly, waterfalls festival is being planned in September followed by yellow flower festival in November,” District Tourism Information Officer K. Gyana Veni told The Hindu . The tribal festival will highlight the culture of the communities residing in the valleys since ages.

Waterfalls

The waterfalls in the valley have been drawing a steady stream of visitors every year. The Tourism Department plans to showcase the beauty of places like Katiki waterfalls near Borra Caves, Thatiguda in Anantagiri, Chaprai in Araku during the waterfalls festivals.

The yellow flower festival is designed in the same lines when the valley turns into a delightful carpet of yellow with the blooming niger flowers across fields in Araku during November. The yellow flower festival being planned to bring in more footfalls to the valley in that month.

“A detailed project report is being prepared by the team at the AP Tourism head office in Vijayawada and will be ready soon,” Ms Veni added.

The AP Tourism Department has been participating in national and international tourism fairs, conferences and exhibitions at different locations to draw tourists from across the globe.

The department is also aggressively promoting investments into the state offering an attractive and investor-friendly Tourism Policy. Earlier, Tourism Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya during her visit to the said the Araku Tribal Circuit will be developed at a cost of ₹100 crore.
