SBI on a mission to take technology to new scales

March 31, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

State Bank of India, the premier public sector bank with 998 branches in Andhra Pradesh and 432 in Telangana, is on a mission mode to take technology to new scales to increase clientele availing Internet and other alternate channels of transaction from the present 67 per cent to 85 to 90 per cent in a couple of years.

SBI Chief General Manager C.R. Sasikumar told The Hindu on Monday that they had introduced technology leaning centres at 36 regional business offices to popularise how to operate Internet banking and various facilities at e-corners and ATMs/CDMs on every third Friday. Experts with relevant devices will give demo on mobile apps and other new-age features to make banking easy.

“We want to discourage our customers from crowding the bank branches – the brick and mortar rooms. In few years, we want to bring maximum number of people making transactions on their mobile,” he said.

Mr. Sasikumar said they were also redesigning their branches to reduce transaction time at the branches. This has been done at the Main Branch, BHEL and Dwarakanagar branches in the city.

On arrival, tokens will be issued to the customers to ensure minimum waiting time – be it service or transaction related visit.

“Our aim is to move customers away from counters and deploy sales personnel to market mutual fund, insurance and other products,” he said.
