Youth should maintain physical fitness and good health by avoiding drugs, smoking, alcohol, and other habit- forming substances, Andhra University Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju has said.
Releasing a poster on problems associated with addiction to habit-forming substances, Prof. Raju urged the students to remember the adage ‘Health is wealth’.
The poster was prepared by the Green Valley Foundation in association with the AU NSS Cell and released in connection with observance of International Drug Abuse Prevention Day here on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, chairperson of the foundation Uma Raj urged the youth to say ‘no’ to drugs for the first time and stick to the commitment forever. She asked the students and NSS volunteers to spread the message among schoolchildren, adolescents, and youth. NSS volunteers should take part in awareness rallies to be conducted in Visakhapatnam, she added.
Rector E.A. Narayana, Registrar K. Rama Mohana Rao, Head of Department of Social Work P. Arjun, and professor in Department of Journalism & Mass Communication D.V.R. Murthy, among others, were present.
