Enthusiasm marked Vanamahotsava celebrations at Sainik School, Korukonda, on Saturday with the Commissioner, Special Economic Zone, Visakhapatnam, S. Kishore, and a former Saikorian and Vice-Chairman of Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority K. Sashidar participating in the event.

A special assembly conducted on the occasion, which was graced by Group Captain R. Murali, Principal, Wing Commander A K Tiwari, Registrar and Lieutenant Commander V. S. Yadav, Headmaster along with a large number of ex-saikorians and all the staff and their families.

Later, the cadets planted one plant each on the school premises on the occasion. This programme was organised under the aegis of VUDA and Association Sakorian, on the occasion of the 62nd Vanamahotsava celebrations and also as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Sainik School, Korukonda.

Similar events are being organised by respective Chapters of Association Saikorian at Hyderabad, Guntur, Visakhapatnam, and other places across the State.

At HNPCL

Hinduja National Power Corporation Limited (HNPCL), which is setting up a thermal power plant at Palavalasa, and Gangavaram Port Limited (GPL) separately launched massive plantation campaign as part of Vanamahotsava celebrations.

HNPCL planted the saplings at their plant site.  The camp was inaugurated by Pedagantyada tahsildar Venkateswara Rao and HNPCL Vice-President (projects) Arun Kumar.  

Mr. Arun Kumar said they would plant around 2,000 saplings as part of the drive. Senior officials from HNPCL, BHEL and other contractors were present.

Gangavaram Port, an ultra modern port located at Visakhapatnam, planted 30,000 saplings in the port area. GPL, which owns Gangavaram Port, stated that they would take part in the plantation drive in response to the State government's decision to plant saplings in a big way.
