Motorists who have purchased new cars, two-wheelers and other vehicles are worried over the continuing agitation for Samaikyandhra, which has now completed two months.
All transactions at the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Office in the city as also in Seemandhra region have come to a standstill as the officers and employees are on strike against the decision to bifurcate the State. Motorists have begun to feel jittery as the City Police have announced a steep upward revision in the amount of compounding fee for non-compliance of the revised Motor Vehicle Rules, which are scheduled to come into effect from October 1.
Compound fee enhanced
The compound fee for plying of two wheelers and light motor vehicle without registration, without renewal of registration or without Fitness Certificate (FC) has been enhanced from Rs.1,000 to Rs.2,000 and for other vehicles from Rs.2,000 to Rs.5,000.
Similarly, the compounding fee for other violations like: driving without uniform for taxis and public transport vehicles, not producing DL and RC/without document and without mirror have been doubled from Rs.50 to Rs.100.
The Transport Department in the district is suffering a loss of Rs.9 lakh a day due to the continuing strike.
New registrations
No new registrations are being done and all transactions at the Transport Offices have come to a standstill.
“We are making temporary arrangements for issue of payment slips for release of registered vehicles caught for non-payment of taxes and other violations through the Transport Offices in Telangana region. New registrations are not being done and we haven’t received any instructions from the Transport Commissioner in this regard,” Deputy Transport Commissioner M. Prabhu Raj Kumar said on Monday.
Temporary relief
Meanwhile, it’s learnt that the High Court had directed the State Government to issue revised orders on the hike as the auto drivers had expressed the view that the steep hike would make their lives miserable.
“We have not received any revised orders from the State Government in this regard. We will keep the hike proposed to be implemented from October 1 in abeyance,” Police Commissioner B. Shivadhar Reddy said when contacted on Monday evening. Motorists can be assured of a temporary relief till that time.
