‘Safe swimming zone at Rushikonda’

10 beaches identified for development in district, says Collector

Collector Pravin Kumar has said the North Andhra districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam along with Visakhapatnam city can become the economic driver for Andhra Pradesh in the tourism sector.

He was speaking at the inaugural of a seminar on: “Prospects and potential for tourism in Visakhapatnam hub”, organised jointly by Andhra Pradesh Tourism and Andhra University, as part of the World Tourism Day celebrations here on Saturday.

The Collector said tourism offers the highest potential for employment and the economies of many countries were dependent on it. Though Visakhapatnam has the potential to attract tourists, it was a challenging task to meet the demand of tourists as a lot of capital expenditure was required for creation of infrastructure. The government was according priority to the promotion of tourism in the State.

He said 10 beaches were identified in Visakhapatnam district for development. Beach shacks were constructed at Thotlakonda beach front and the Rushikonda beach front was being developed by the AP Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC). He announced that a safe swimming zone would be developed at Rushikonda.
