After winning the South Zone Women’s Inter University Cricket tournament and making the city proud, the Andhra University team wishes to dedicate its trophy to the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar. They say that the legend will continue to live in their hearts post retirement.
For them, competing with 16 universities and passing through every knockout tournament was like a dream come true.
At Radio City studio, they shared their challenging experiences with The Hindu and the reason for dedicating their trophy to the living God of Cricket.
“The extensive practice we did for 20 days helped us stay focused. The first day of the tournament was very challenging as the match was only for 15 overs,” recollects the captain of the team S. Kavitha. Being part of the five matches is something very special for B. Lalitha, one of the team members.
“The expectations were high as the final match was against the host team – Karnataka. After the triumph, it was like being on cloud nine,” she exclaims.
G. Polamma, who was also awarded ‘Woman of the series’, says, “The tournament boosted our confidence levels to a great extent. .” Now, the team members are keen to give their best shot in the upcoming Senior Women’s cricket tournament to be held next month.
While the spirit of victory is yet to be celebrated, the city cricketers feel emotional when they think of Sachin’s retirement.
