Long queues of assesses for property tax payment were seen at the various GVMC counters set up to enable payment on the penultimate day of the current financial year.
With the government announcing interest wavier up to Saturday, assesses rushed to the counters at the GVMC Main Office, the Bill Junction of GVMC at Surya Baugh and counters at banks like IDBI, ICICI and Axis. For many, the search to find a counter for paying without waiting long proved elusive.
The property tax collection on Friday grossed Rs.5.15 crore, higher than the Rs.4.4 crore on Thursday. Zone III accounted for the highest collection of Rs.1.3 crore. The counters witnessed heavy rush.
Among the top payers on Friday is the LIC that paid Rs.1,04,19,043 towards property tax from 1995, GVMC officials said. It got an interest waiver of Rs.72 lakh.
