AP State Road Transport Corporation (APS RTC) has decided to leverage its connectivity not only to cities and towns but also to remote villages and interior tribal villages to foray into the ‘parcel’ delivery business.

RTC Executive Director (Vizianagaram Zone) A. Ramakrishna opened the corporation’s parcel booking counter at the Dwaraka Bus Station (DBS) Complex here on Wednesday.

Speaking to mediapersons on the occasion, the ED said RTC had very good connectivity and the parcels would be delivered within 24 hours to the places covered by the buses. Apart from all major cities in Andhra Pradesh, RTC operates buses to Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru apart from a number of towns and rural areas.

He said the corporation had appointed Assistant Traffic Manager K. Praveen as Special Officer for Parcel Transport for Visakhapatnam Region. He would oversee the transport of parcels from all the 10 RTC depots and the DBS Complex (RTC Complex) in the region.

A special place would be allocated for parcels, in all buses operating to various districts and as also to other States, on hire basis. Interested individuals, organisations and agents can book the space on daily, monthly or yearly basis. The parcel booking facility would be opened at Narsipatnam, Paderu and Anakapalle Bus Stations in the near future.

Mr. Ramakrishna said ATM (commercial) could be contacted on the mobile no. 83310 09506 or the parcel counter could be reached on mobile no. 83310 09505 for details.

Regional Manager G. Sudesh Kumar spoke.
