An RTC driver was on Monday sentenced to 10-year imprisonment for negligent driving.

Thirteenth Additional District and Sessions Judge (Gajuwaka) K. Chidananda sentenced P. Satyanarayana, the driver, to 10-year rigorous imprisonment and to pay a fine of Rs.3,000 for negligent driving, which had resulted in the death of three students and injuries to three others on April 11, 2009.

Three students of a college in Hyderabad were killed and three more students of the same college were inured when they were run over by an RTC city bus at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant arch at Kurmanapalem. The girls came on a visit to Steel Plant as a part of their academic work and they were standing near the arch. The RTC bus going towards Gajuwaka knocked down the girls as the driver Satyanarayana, who was driving negligently, lost control over the vehicle.

Public Prosecutor O. Ratan Raju argued the case on behalf of the prosecution.
