A roundtable will be organised in the city on December 12 with all youth organisations, student unions, and intellectuals to demand establishment of ITIR in Visakhapatnam.
Addressing a media conference here on Wednesday, All India Youth Federation (AIYF) city council secretary P. Chandrasekhar and president M. Srinivas described as “unfortunate” the proposal to set up the ITIR in Hyderabad at an estimated cost of Rs.2.25 lakh crore, and said the AIYF was opposed to it. They said the AIYF would wage a relentless battle till an ITIR region was sanctioned for Visakhapatnam.
They also sought setting up of an IIT, Central University, and institutes of higher education in the North Andhra region to provide better education and employment opportunities to the youths of the region.
Out of 3 lakh engineering seats in the State, 2 lakh seats were remaining vacant every year. They expressed the view that this was due to lack of quality in education being offered by the colleges.
They urged the government to appoint a high-level committee to study the reasons and suggest remedial measures.
They said the managements of private medical colleges were collecting crores of rupees in the name of management quota, and sought action against such colleges. They also faulted the detention system in ITI course and demanded that such a system be withdrawn failing which the AIYF would organise agitations along with other student and youth organisations.
Vacant postsThe AIYF leaders sought filling of 4.5 lakh vacant posts in the State. The APPSC, being a constitutional body, could issue a notification for filling the posts. They also opposed the proposal to fill posts of Panchayat Raj secretaries on contractual basis and demanded that the posts be filled on regular basis.
The AIYF Visakhapatnam City Mahasabha was held recently at Madhurawada. The convention elected M. Srinivas as president, P. Chandrasekhar as secretary, and B. Sudhakar and P. Ajay as vice-presidents. Besides, 31 others were elected council members.
