To pay respect and gratitude to the centuries-old saint-poet, members of Tamil Kalai Mandram (TKM) are proposing to install a six-feet plus statue of Tiruvalluvar on January 20.
Announcing this at a meet here on Sunday, vice-president of TKM M. Ravi Kumar said that the statue that was to be installed on the premises of the TKM was donated by chairman of VGP Group of Companies V.G. Santosham who would take part in the ceremony.
The poet’s sacred couplets popularly known as ‘Tirukkural’ contain moral, cultural, traditional, social, economical, political and spiritual values written some 2,000 years ago. Tiruvalluvar’s invaluable contributions to Tamil literature in the form of poems and verses have inspired many a mind and continue to do so, helping people how to lead a balanced life with the right conduct apart from nurturing healthy relationship and several others.
To reach out to Telugu people, ‘Tirukkural’ has been translated into the regional language by M. Sankara Raju under the title of ‘Sri Divya Suktulu’. A total of 400 copies were printed and the community members are distributing it free of cost.
Tiruvalluvar’s statue would be unveiled by Tamil Nadu Governor K. Rosaiah and on the occasion a group of experts and professors from Tamil Nadu would deliver lectures on the significance of ‘Tirukkural’ followed by a host of cultural programmes.
Secretary of TKM J. Anantha Raman, senior journalist and one of the members of TKM B. Prabhakara Sarma and treasurer D. Rama Das also participated.
