Chief Minister K. Rosaiah strongly supported establishment of atomic power plants on the plea to increase power generation so that required power is supplied to farmers and others.
“Intellectuals cite the Chernobyl accident but have we stopped travel by air or by a boat because there have been accidents. That accident happened long time ago but look at France where 80 per cent (of power) is generated at atomic power plants. The technology has also changed,” he said while participating in a ‘gram sabha' as part of the Praja Patham programme held in the mandal headquarters on Tuesday.
Mr. Rosaiah raised the power issue after local farmers wanted the seven-hour free power supply done at one stretch and during day time. The existing power generation would not meet that requirement as power was also required for industries, etc. This was the reason the government concentrated on power generation for the past five years since power would take the nation forward, he said and went on to support the atomic power generation plants though not mentioning the name of one in Srikakulam district, which was being strongly opposed by farmers, fishermen and others of that area. He said the government would want people to be happy and would not like to cling on to power even after people did not like it.

The Chief Minister said development and welfare were the two eyes of the government and would not neglect either of them. It would not also think on party lines after elections were over. A government without a programme for the people or would not do good to them was afraid of coming into open and meet people but the Congress government was not like that. It would meet every one as far as possible, the Chief Minister said while talking about Praja Patham.
Mr. Rosaiah participated in the Praja Patham on the second and concluding day of his visit to the district. Ministers P. Babaraju, Kanna Lakshminarayana and Botcha Satyanarayana, local MLA M. Srinivasa Rao of Bheemunipatnam, Zilla Praja Parishad Chairman G. Ramamurthy Naidu, Collector J. Syamala Rao and others were present.
