The Joint Secretary of Ministry of Steel, Lokesh Chandra, on Tuesday predicted a bright future for the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) — which plans to expand the capacity of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant to 20 million tonne.
Complimenting the RINL on its capability to compete with major steel makers like SAIL and Tata despite not having captive mines, he observed that the efficiency of employees and the right kind of leadership were largely contributing to the success of the organisation.
RINL, a Navratna company, is now on the verge of completing expansion of VSP’s capacity from three million tonne to 6.3 million tonne with an investment of Rs.12,500 crore.
Mr. Chandra, who visited the VSP and later inspected facilities port facilities in the city, held an interaction with top officials of the RINL on the progress of expansion and its long-term plans to achieve 20 million tonne capacity.He also inaugurated the base mix plant of the sinter plant — a part of the expansion plan.
During his first visit to the plant, he opined that RINL would achieve a better position after stabilisation of its current phase of expansion and assured that all help would be rendered for allotment of mines.
He advised the RINL Collective to run the plant as efficiently as possible to enable better realisation of the investment made in expansion. Elucidating his views during the corporate presentation wherein highlighting the achievements and challenges of the company were presented,
Mr. Chandra visualised a very bright future for the RINL with their directional plan to expand further.
Welcoming the Joint Secretary, RINL Chairman-cum-Managing Director A.P. Choudhary lauded the help being extended by the Joint Secretary, Additional Secretary and Secretary, Ministry of Steel in pursuing allotment of iron ore mines to RINL in different States.
Mr. Choudhary assured that the RINL would perform better in the years to come and reach greater heights.
Earlier, Mr. Chandra planted saplings at Dedication Park on the plant premises and paid a visit to Model Room and Awards Gallery. Later he visited various production units, expansion areas and the officials explained him the latest technological know- how incorporated in the plant.
RINL Directors Umesh Chandra (Operations), T.K. Chand (Commercial), Y.R. Reddy (Personnel), N.S. Rao (Projects) and others were present.
