The Third Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Gajuwaka, P. Dattatreyulu on Monday sentenced a 35-year-ol Nigerian national Frido Ambrose to six months’ rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs.500 for cheating a girl from the city.

Frido Ambrose, along with his gang, duped L. Ramadevi, a post-graduate student of Rs.2.31 lakh in a black dollar scam and was arrested by the city police on June 12 last. The girl received an e-mail saying that she had won an annual prize of one million pounds and she deposited Rs.2.31 lakh, as she was told to do, in five accounts to claim the prize money. She received another e-mail to deposit an additional Rs.9.4 lakh to claim the prize money. Suspecting foul play, the girl called organisers and told them that she was not in a position to pay the amount and sought return of the money already paid by her. The girl laid a trap to nab Frido Ambrose, who came to Vizag on June 12, to collect some money from the girl and deliver a “gift” to her. Later, the girl handed him over to Gajuwaka police and the case was subsequently transferred to Cyber Crimes Investigation Cell in the city. However, the prime accused in the case is yet to arrested.

The prosecution, Myllapalli Adinarayana ,said Frido Ambrose cheated the girl and proved the case under Section 420 and 511 of IPC. The case was investigated by Inspector of Police, Cyber Crime Investigation cell K. Satyanarayana Rao.
