Boat operators who suffered extensive damage during cyclone Hudhud are pinning hopes on the government issuing a revised order on payment of compensation to them in a few days.

After several representations, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu promised representatives of the Association of Indian Fishery Industries, AP Mechanised Boat Operators’ Welfare Association and Dolphin Boat Operators’ Welfare Association that GO Ms. No. 13 issued on October 22, 2014, would be amended to give enhanced compensation to mechanised boats, which were fully/partially sunk and subsequently salvaged to resume fishing operations after repairs.

“There is a buzz that the government has sanctioned Rs.58 crore to pay compensation to owners of the damaged boats and the crew of those boats who were rendered jobless since October 12. There are indications that the GO will be amended shortly,” Ch. Satyanarayana Murthy, president of Dolphin Boat Operators’ Welfare Association said.
