District Collector G. Venkatram Reddy on Thursday asked farmers to reschedule their loans immediately to get fresh loans from bankers. Mr. Venkatram Reddy said the farmers should not wait for waiver of previous loans since there was no such proposal with the government.
While addressing bankers at his camp office, he said the government would credit the compensation for crop loss in November, 2010 directly into the farmers' accounts. The compensation amount should not be adjusted for the outstanding loans, he said.
The bankers have to assist farmers in opening accounts with zero balance so that it would be easy for the government to credit the compensation in a week. The amount could be utilised for kharif season. With the rescheduling of existing loans, the farmers are eligible to borrow extra money from banks at low interest rates.
Meanwhile, the Collector urged the Andhra Pradesh State Seed Development Corporation officials to release 31,000 quintals of seed immediately as the district needed almost 1 lakh quintals during kharif season. “We will begin supply of seed at subsidised prices in all mandals,” said the Collector.
