Dozens of workers and government staff along with GVMC employees descended on the Collectorate, Andhra University campus and on the important roads of the city and worked in a frenzy to prepare a venue for the first Cabinet meeting of the N. Chandrababu Naidu government scheduled to be held on Thursday.
Collectorate’s conference hall and Andhra University’s TLN Sabha Hall, Senate Hall and the Executive Council Hall are being prepared and one of them will be the venue of the Cabinet meeting. The venue will be selected late in the night and the Senate Hall is likely to be the choice. Since this is going to be a historical one, the officials are sparing no effort. Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao will decide the venue late in the night.
Every inch of the Collectorate was being cleaned, a new coat of paint being given and the chairs in the Conference Hall are being replaced with executive chairs. All shrubs on the premises in front of the main building were trimmed, the railings were being painted and the traffic island in front of the main gate was getting a new coat of paint and the grass and plants were trimmed.
At AU, Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju was constantly monitoring the work, visiting the venues with Collector S. Solomon Arokia Raj, Joint Collector Pravin Kumar, Municipal Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana and university officials including Registrar K. Rama Mohana Rao. “AU will be the venue (for the Cabinet meeting) and one of the three facilities will be chosen”, Prof. Raju said. AU would utilise the CM’s visit to the campus and bring to his notice the needs of the university, he added.
Mr. Arokia Raj suggested improvement of wash rooms of the Senate Hall and work was immediately launched. At TLN Sabha Hall, which is being strongly believed to be chosen as venue due to its historic importance as the Andhra government held its summer session at the hall in June 1954, dozens of workers weare peeling off the old paint and painting new colour, carpenters were doing repair work and plumbers were fixing taps etc. Electricians were checking the connections. Director of Physical Education M. Syam Babu and NSS Coordinator N.A.D. Pal were supervising the work. University flags of different colours were erected along the main roads of the campus.
The VIP road was being readied with the dividers being painted again. Posters, handbills, etc., painted on the road dividers and on the walls of Collectorate and other buildings were removed on a war footing.
