The services of sanitary workers, who are rendering yeomen services to society, should be recognised and regularised by the government, CITU State president Ch. Narasinga Rao has said.

A ‘Maha Garjana’ with hundreds of sanitary workers, was organised by the GVMC Contract Workers Union (CITU), here on Saturday.

Addressing the meeting, Mr. Narasinga Rao underlined the need for bringing out a comprehensive law for safeguarding the health of sanitary workers.

He recalled that Putchalapalli Sundarayya, who was born in an upper caste family, had fought against casteism and oppression of Dalits.

Sundarayya, whose 33rd death anniversary was observed on Saturday, had endeared himself to Dalits by partaking meals with them. He commended the workers for choosing to organising a protest for their rights on Sundarayya’s death anniversary.
