The celebrations started off with a group of women, traditionally dressed in crisp off-white saris and eye-catching jewellery, performing traditional dance-‘Thiruvathara Kali’ circling ‘Kuthuvillaku’ followed by ‘Kummi and Mangalam.’ Colourful floral decoration ‘pookalam’ welcomed visitors to rejoice the festive spirit.
As part of the celebrations, children performed a host of programmes such as classical dance, folk dance, bollywood dance and other activities. Ashna Sasidharan’s portrayed pristine emotions as foster mother Yashoda towards her son Sri Krishna in the form of Bharatanatyam. Her gestures and movements matched perfectly with her expressions. There was a semi-classical performance by a team of eight members, combining Mohiniyattam, Kathakali and ‘Ottan Thullal’-traditional art form of Kerala. Mohiniyattam by Aanakha Chandra Babu and ‘Ekapathra Natakam’ by Rejitha Madhu from Kerala depicting the theme-history of Kerala were quite laudable.
The celebration of Onam would be incomplete without savouring Onasadya. Community members relished the traditional feast served on banana leaf. A team of three cooks from Kerala supported in the preparations of 28 items.
