A team of RBI officials from Pune visited Thummapala village near Anakapalle to conduct a three-day training programme organised by Sarada Valley Development Samithi (SVDS).

Officials from various nationalised banks, who attended the programme, said the rate of recovery of loans given to SHG women was satisfactory as it exceeded more than 95%. They encouraged others to set up units such as food processing which is in great demand.

A number of SHG women took part in the training programme that concluded on Friday. Some of the participants had a chance to narrate their success stories and how their entrepreneurial skills had turned out to be a source of inspiration for other members to follow suit.

However, those who made repeated visits to the banks to access credit facility explained the ordeal they faced in the process. They opined that the process of loans should be made less cumbersome by minimising the long waiting hours and other customer-friendly measures.

Exposure visits to other places

Programme coordinator, RBI S. Ananthi said similar exposure visits were earlier made to Puducherry, Kochi and Udaipur wherein success stories of SHG women were shared with the officials of nationalised banks.

“In addition to bringing their success stories to the fore, the avenue also aims at promoting micro enterprises and introduce women to various business models and thus creating a win-win situation for the lending institutions as well as SHG women,” she added.
