Jnanpith award winner Ravuri Bharadwaja will be honoured during the inaugural session of the third multi-State cultural festival being organised by the Indian Society for Cultural Cooperation and Friendship (ISCUF) here on Saturday and Sunday.
Ravuri Bharadwaja was born in 1927 in a poor family and could not study beyond eighth class but earned fame through his short stories, poetry and critical reviews and received honorary doctorates, Central Sahitya Akademi award and ultimately the Jnanpith award this year. He had done several odd jobs, worked in weeklies and also in AIR.
Honour for Vizag
ISCUF feels it an honour for the people of Visakhapatnam to felicitate such a great personality in the literary field and would like them to attend the function to be held at the Kalabharati auditorium on Saturday evening, said general secretary of the reception committee T.S. Sukumaran, general secretary of ISCUF district unit A.V. Rao, president Sekhara Mantri Prabhakar and others.
Director (finance) of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant P. Madhusudhan will be chief guest of the function while Andhra University Vice-Chancellor G.S.N. Raju and others will be present. Noted singer N. Parameswara Rao and members of Praja Natya Mandali will present a programme.
The cultural festival this year has attracted artistes from 13 States, highest so far. CMD of Vijay Nirman Company S. Vijaya Kumar will inaugurate the cultural festival after felicitations to Ravuri Bharadwaja. Former Vice-Chancellor of Acharya Nagarjuna University V. Balamohan Das will be the chief guest of the valedictory function to be held on Sunday. Member presidium of ISCUF national council Sayeed Azeez Pasha, member presidium of State council S. Ramachandra Reddy and general secretary of State ISCUF K. Rajasekhar will participate.
