The PM Palem police arrested two persons on Monday for allegedly raping a minor girl.

The arrested were identified as P. Kiran Kumar (20) a resident of a locality near Appughar and Appalaraju (21) a resident of Jodugullapalem area. Both are auto-rickshaw drivers.

The duo raped the 17-year-old girl on Saturday night, but the incident came to light on Sunday, when the parents of the girl lodged a complaint with the police.

According to PM Palem police station SHO S. Appala Raju, the girl a resident of Sagar Nagar, boarded a share auto at Appughar at about 9 p.m. on Saturday after her day’s work at a grocery store in MVP Colony.

“She boarded the auto, which was being driven by Kiran, as she had missed the bus. There was a lady and a boy in the auto at the time of boarding. But both of them got down at Jodugullapalem bus stop and Kiran’s friend Appalaraju boarded the auto at that spot. They then diverted the auto towards the vacant Visakha Valley School route and raped her after dragging the victim to the bushes. They also threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed their names,” said Inspector S. Appala Raju.

According to the Inspector, Kiran Kumar was known to the girl and with that confidence she had boarded the auto. “It looks to be a pre-planned crime, as Kiran was aware of the girl’s movement,” said the SHO.

The accused will be sent to remand on Tuesday and the girl was sent for medical examination.
