Ramavarapu award presented

Ramavarapu Vijayalakshmi Global Award-2017 was presented to Mohana veena maestro Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt on Saturday.

The award, comprising ₹1,00,000 in cash, silver veena, citation, plaque and memento, was presented by HPCL Visakh Refinery Executive Director G.S.V.S.S.S. Prasad Sarma at Kala Bharati auditorium.

Pandit Bhatt said he could see a lot of promising musicians performing and complimented their devotion to music.

He expressed his happiness at receiving the award and the affection showered on him.

Recipients of the award, presented by Ramavarapu Vijayalakshmi Music Memorial and Charitable Trust, were L. Subhramanyam in 2015 and K. Umayalapuram Sivaraman in 2016.

Andhra University Vice-Chancellor G. Nageswara Rao and others participated in the programme.

The programme, began with a documentary ‘Sangita Sadguru Siromani Ramavarapu Vijayalakshmi,’ followed by a impressive concert by her students and those of Ramavarapu Madhuridevi titled ‘Guru Tyagaraja Vijayam.’

Pandit Bhatt presented mementos to all the young artistes who performed.

He also released the CD ‘Guru Tyagaraja Vijayam’.

He presented a gold medal for the ‘best student of the year’ to Smriti Chitra.
