A united effort in power saving can solve the power crisis and address demand supply gap, especially during peak summer. Highlighting power saving tips with placards in hand, staff of APEPDCL and several school students participated in an awareness rally from Kali Temple to YMCA on Monday to observe Energy Conservation Week.
During the rally, pamphlets were distributed to the public with power saving tips for lights and fans, refrigerator, air conditioners, washing machine, geysers and kitchen appliances. “Some basic tips like using LED lamps, keeping refrigerator thermostat to medium setting, choosing star labelled ACs, keeping washing machine timer setting low and adopting solar water heaters are some of the ways to save power,” said B. Ramesh Prasad, Chief General Manager Commercial, APEPDCL.
District Collector N. Yuvaraj who was the chief guest on the occasion applauded the efforts of APEPDCL in creating public awareness on various energy saving measures. Joint Collector Pravin Kumar and Chairman and Managing Director APEPDCL M.V. Seshagiri Babu, among others, took part in the rally. The participants took a pledge after the rally to consciously avoid wastage of energy in all forms and spread the message of energy conservation and benefits of efficient utilisation of energy.
As part of the Energy Conservation Week, APEPDCL is organising a series of programmes. On Tuesday, a painting competition for school students on the theme ‘Significance of Energy Conservation’ will be held at the corporate office. The competition will be held in three categories – sub juniors (up to class III), juniors (classes IV to VI) and seniors (classes VII to X). Students can also participate in an essay writing competition on the topic ‘Need for Energy Conservation’ that will be held on Wednesday. Apart from this, workshop on best practices in energy conservation and awareness programme on solar energy will be organised during the week.
