GVMC Commissioner inspects the Allipuram-railway station road
Municipal Commissioner B. Ramanjaneyulu and Divisional Railway Manager N. Kashinath on Thursday discussed the proposed expansion of the Allipuram road from Ambedkar statue to the railway station and other proposals involving railway land.
After an inspection of the road along with Deputy Commissioner of Police J. Brahma Reddy, Mr. Ramanjaneyulu met the DRM at his office and requested that some site abutting the Railway quarters be allotted for widening the road. By shifting the compound wall by 10 ft, accessibility to the railway station would improve, he said adding central lighting and divider would be set up.
A GVMC release said though Mr. Kasinath agreed to the proposal in principle, he suggested that it should be taken up with the General Manager of the East Coast Railway at Bhubaneshwar.
Mr. Ramanjaneyulu also wanted that permission be accorded for establishing multi-level parking at the railway site adjacent to the LIC Building. The girders from Allipuram Road to the Railway Station road be removed to allow for road expansion and reduce congestion. The DRM wanted a joint inspection to be taken up by GVMC and the Railways on the two proposals.
The Commissioner intends to take up the joint inspection in a day or two and a GVMC delegation to Bhubaneshwar to approach the General Manager.
GVMC Chief Engineer B. Jayarami Reddy, Chief City Planner D. Venkataratnam and zone commissioner Rajasekhar Reddy participated.
