At Kaveri Kannada Sangha, the live concert accompanied by Gopal Gudubandi on tabla, Sripad Das on harmonium and Narayana Das on talam, saw music lovers drawn to the world of Purandaradasa.

Sunday evening turned out to be melodious for Kannadigas as Raichur Seshagiri Das and his troupe from Bangalore regaled the community with a host of 15 renditions of Purandara Dasa on the occasion of the legendary composer’s 450 death anniversary.

At Kaveri Kannada Sangha, the live concert accompanied by Gopal Gudubandi on tabla, Sripad Das on harmonium and Narayana Das on talam, saw music lovers drawn to the world of Purandaradasa.

‘Gurupurandara Dasare’, ‘Raya baro Raghavendra’ and ‘teraneri meredu baruva’ were some of the ‘kritis’ performed. A number of compositions by disciples of Karnataka Sangeeta Pitamaha Purandara Dasa were also sung. “The renowned Carnatic composer used music as the medium to strengthen ‘bhakti’ and ‘dharma’ among the people. His disciples followed the same path and composed several kirtanas,” Raichur Seshagiri Das, visiting the city for the first time, said.

After staging several concerts in more than 10 countries, Mr. Das says that his only goal is to propagate his Guru’s compositions across the world. Some of the Telugu people also joined the concert which lasted for about two hours. President of the sangha Sriram and secretary Vishnumurthy Bhat along with other invitees participated.
