The AP Pollution Control Board (APPCB) will hold a public hearing on the Rs.1,050-crore furnace grade carbon black manufacturing unit and power generation plant proposed by Continental Carbon India Limited (CCIL) at Rambilli, about 50 km. from here, on May 6.

Project-affected people and others can lodge objections to the project to the APPCB in advance or vent their feelings on the project at the public hearing.

For the project, the AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) allotted 100 acres at Pudi village of Rambilli mandal about two years ago.

The state-of-the art Greenfield plant coming up in the district will be part of Petroleum, Chemical and Petrochemical Investment Region. It will have a capacity to produce 4.2 lakh tonnes of carbon blacks per year with plans for phase-wise expansion.

The captive power generation plant will have a capacity to generate 150 MW – three units each with 50 MW.

The CCIL has a plant at Ghaziabad with a production capacity of 65,000 tonnes per annum. Carbon blacks, used for various applications in the rubber industry, are high in demand in the country as well as abroad. The company plans to export 50 per cent of its production.

Company sources said the plant would have facilities for water recycling and marine outfall to discharge treated effluents as per specifications made by various agencies.
