Principal Secretary (Health) Poonam Malakondaiah on Wednesdat said Visakhapatnam Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) will not be privatised and treatment for the poor will continue free of cost under the various State government’s health initiatives such as NTR Vaidya Seva and Aarogyasri.

According to her, the core areas of treatment such as trauma care, general medicine and general surgery will continue to function directly under the government. “What we are planning is give certain super-speciality areas such as cardiology and cancer to private players under the PPP mode. We have currently identified about six areas under the PPP mode,” she said.

CEO of AP Med Tech and Consultant to AP Government Dr. Jitendar Sharma said, “there are certain specialised treatments that are not available even in government hospitals and we intend to outsource only those areas. But it has already been decided that even if we outsource the treatment will be given free under the health schemes,” he said.
