To bring down crime rate, the city and the district police are implementing a series of steps. In the recent past, most of the crimes, be it house break-in, snatching or dacoity or murders, were committed by inter-state gangs. And to curb the recurrence, the police have been organising regular ‘Nakabandis’ and cordon and search operations, especially in areas close to the National Highways.
This apart, the police say the jail monitoring system is paying dividends.
According to DCP (Zone- II), T. Ravi Kumar Murthy, a close tab is being kept on every history-sheeter, ex convicts and remand prisoners. As per the system all the listed history-sheeters and prisoners on bail are supposed to report to the nearest police station every Saturday and give a report about their movement during the week. “This apart, we also conduct surprise checks at their residences,” said Mr. Murthy.
“A core team has been formed with all the SHOs of the respective police stations under the Commissionerate and the SHOs will be monitoring the movement of all those released from jail under their jurisdiction,” said the DCP. The District Police have gone a step ahead by asking the night patrol personnel to click a selfie and upload into the police server.
The district police have also initiated the locked house monitoring system (LHMS) to prevent house break-in. Under this system, CC TV cameras will be installed in the locked houses and cameras will be connected to the command control room.
These apart, both the city police and the district police are connected to the Dial 100 and have dedicated mobile apps for receiving complaints.
The response factor to the complaints has increased, and GPS fitted patrols reach the spot in quick time.
The city police dedicated app Abhayam has also been designed to register complaints. The Abhayam is connected to the Central Command Control, and the response time is very fast. Anybody can download the app from Google Playstore and install the app. All one has to do is to press the panic button and the police team will reach the spot, as the app is GPS connected, said the DCP.
