President’s medal for Vizag SP

Superintendent of Police Visakhapatnam Rahul Dev Sharma has been awarded the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry for the year 2017.

A 2010 batch IPS officer, Mr. Rahul took over as SP of Visakhapatnam in May 2016. Considered to be highly successful in curbing Maoist menace in Visakhapatnam district and it was during his tenure that 30 Maoists were killed in an exchange of fire in Ramaguda in the cut-off area in the Andhra Odisha Border region.

Speaking to The Hindu , Mr. Rahul said, “It is a proud moment for every police officer and more so that this year AP has taken the chunk of medals.

Out of 192, AP bagged 52, which include 48 for Greyhounds, the elite anti-naxal force of AP.”

Apart from 48 Greyhounds personnel, the four officers from AP selected for the PPM are Rahul Dev Sharma, Additional SP (SIB) Narayan Reddy, SP of Kadapa Attada Babujee and IPS officer Raghuram Reddy who was the former group commander of Greyhounds.
