The State government is planning to improve facilities and services in Government hospitals through public-private partnership, Principal Secretary to Department of Health L.V. Subrahmanyam said here on Friday.
Mr. Subrahmanyam, was speaking to reporters after visiting the Government Hospitals in the city along with Principal Secretary (medical education) J. Satyanarayana, to examine the methods to be adopted to solve the problems being faced by the hospitals. On the measures being taken to tackle swine flu, Mr. Subrahmanyam said the Centre wanted ventilators to be arranged at hospitals in 16 districts. It was not much of a problem in Visakhapatnam and the doctors and officials were told to maintain the status. Malaria cases were also on the rise, more in urban areas, and the situation was being monitored and all preventive measures were being taken, he said. Answering a question, he said the steam laundry in King George Hospital would be made functional again and another steam laundry would be established for all other hospitals.
Special meeting
A special meeting with authorities of all Government hospitals in the city would be held soon to discuss outsourcing to overcome the problem of inadequate staff.
Earlier, Mr. Subrahmanyam and Dr. Satyanarayana participated in the joint meeting of Hospital Development Committees of all five Government Hospitals in the city. Collector J. Syamala Rao said administrative problems, spending of funds, staff positions, etc. were discussed during the meeting.
Mr. Subrahmanyam told the hospital administrators to make optimum use of the available funds and facilities. When a member referred to the attack on a doctor in KGH recently, Mr. Subrahmanyam wanted the doctors to understand the patients’ anxiety and act according to the situation.
