Post-mortem was performed on the body of the Maoist killed in Saturday’s exchange of fire near Bodagumma village in Munchingput mandal, at the Area Hospital, Paderu, on Sunday morning.

Yet to be identified

The male body was clad in civil clothes and was not yet identified. The deceased might have come from Malkangiri-Boipariguda area in Odisha, the police officers said at a press conference in Paderu on Sunday.

Three of four Maoists were injured. However, they fled the scene.

DIG of Police A. Ravi Chandra, SP Koya Praveen, ASP A. Babuji, Commandant of CRPF 198 battalion Nisheet Kumar and Deputy Commandant P. Kishore addressed the press conference.

Special parties and CRPF men were sent to the Bodagumma area under Rangabayalu panchayat on receiving information that Maoists were planning a plenum in the area.

While the special parties and CRPF were combing the Gobaripada area, a group of 15 armed Maoists was sighted and the Maoists fired at the security personnel when asked to surrender.

The police fired back in self-defence and after the Maoists fled the scene along with the injured persons, 12 kit bags, two .303 riffles, four hand grenades and two wireless sets were seized.

The seized material was put on display at the press conference.
