Essar Steel Ltd., in association with The Hindu will conduct a ‘Poster design contest' for school children on Sunday to commemorate Earth Day.

The theme is ‘global warming' and the venue is the conference hall above Andhra University Central canteen in AU, from 9 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. The contest will be for two categories - juniors from Classes 5, 6 and 7 and seniors from classes 8, 9 and 10. The entry is only through registration which can be done by calling 0891-2536159 and 9849498771 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on all working days. The registration is done on first come-first served basis.

Commissioner of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation B. Ramanjaneyulu will be chief guest and give away the prizes. Professors S. Ramakrishna Rao, BS Sastry and Solomon Raju and Joint Chief Environmental Engineer of AP Pollution Control Board K.V. Rao will address the students on environmental issues.

All the participating students will be issued a certificate and there will be first, second and third prizes in each category. The event will be the first in a series of four which Essar and The Hindu have planned to conduct for creating awareness about environmental protection and its importance to the future generations. Essar, through its green plan, has developed a green belt in 51 acres out of 110 acres of its site in the city. There are nearly 60,000 plants in and outside the premises.
