Portal to monitor growth of saplings

November 18, 2014 12:46 am | Updated 12:46 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

It is not enough to plant a sapling, someone has to own it up and nurture it to become a tree. To help public monitor the growth of individual saplings a portal has been developed. Civic officials are uploading data on the saplings, including species, height and diameter along with its photo, planted across the 72 wards of the city and after a week the entire information would be available in the public domain, project manager of the portal www.onevizag.org Harikrishna accompanied by CEO and MD of Pheonix IT Solutions G Murali Krishna explained. By Monday evening details of 5,000 plants have been uploaded on the site, including the sapling planted by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at the TTD Circle in MVP Colony.

Naidu launches portal

The portal, developed by the CITYZEN – a CSR wing of Phoenix IT Solutions Ltd – was formally launched by the Chief Minister after he planted the banyan sapling as part of the campaign to green Visakhapatnam taken up across the city.

Each individual can take a photo of a plant and upload it onto the portal onevizag.org and fill in the details like the species, height and diameter of the tree. The growth of the plant needs to be uploaded periodically by volunteers enabling remote monitoring of the progress of the project, director CITYZEN project Vani Gannamani said.
