Polycet: West Godavari bags top honours

Ganta says counselling will commence in the first or second week of June

: Matta Venkata Sesh Teja of Velivennu in West Godavari district topped the Polycet 2016 rankers with a score of 120 marks as candidates from West Godavari district dominated the rank list getting six of the top 10 positions, with two of them from Tadepalligudem. Two from Rajamahendravaram and one each from Itchapuram in Srikakulam district and Kakinada are in the top 10 list.

S. Sri Ram Gupta of Itchapuram,, M. Venkata Rohit and G. Siva Abhishek Kumar of Rajahmahendravaram secured the second, third and fourth ranks respectively, scoring 119 marks each.

P. Sai Seetaram Harish (Rajahmahendravaram) (fifth), P. Harsha Vardhini (Kateru, Rajahmundry), V. Dowtya Sri Prasanth (Jangareddygudem), P. Hrithik Mohan (Tanuku) (all three sixth rank), K. Neeraj (Narsapur), Jaddu Vijayapaul (Tadepalligudem) and M. Mounika (Tadepalligudem) (all three ninth rank) secured 118 marks each.

While Sesh Tej and Vardhini were toppers among boys and girls in the Andhra University area, G. Jaya Prakash Reddy of Tadipatri with 117 marks and K. Siva Praneeta Reddy of Nellore city with 113 marks were toppers among boys and girls in the Sri Venkateswara University area.

Marks scored in mathematics were taken into consideration to award higher rank in case of a tie in the total marks, and if still a tie persists, marks in physics are considered. Candidates have been awarded the same rank if the tie still persists.

Resolution of the tie will be then based on the date of birth and the total marks secured in the SSC examination of the candidate, after the release of SSC marks and at the time of verification of certificates for counselling when the data is available.

HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao released the ranks here on Friday and announced that counselling would commence in the first or second week of June.

He also noted that many polytechnic colleges needed to be strengthened in several aspects, including teaching. Principal Secretary (higher education) Sumita Dawra, Commissioner (Higher Education) Udaya Lakshmi, Vice-Chancellor of AU E.A. Narayana, MLAs and others were present.

Detailed notification

The Commissioner of Technical Education would soon release a detailed notification on web counselling for admission into polytechnics in all leading newspapers and the notification itself should be treated as call letter for web counselling and separate call letters would not be sent. Candidates have to attend the certificate verification as per schedule given in the notification.

In case a candidate fails to attend certificate verification as per the schedule given, he or she is not eligible for admission into any polytechnic during 2016-17, according to a press release received later from the Secretary of the State Board of Technical Education and Training (SBTET).

The total number of seats in the 313 polytechnics in the State is 87,681.

There are 81 government polytechnics with an intake of 16,395 and the 232 private institutions have 71,286 seats.

A total of 1,32,375 candidates have appeared for PolyCET 2016 held on April 27 and 1,08,976 (82.32 per cent) have qualified by scoring a minimum of 36 marks (30 per cent).

There was no minimum pass mark for SC and ST candidates.

Mr. Hritik Mohan belonging to SC category has secured overall sixth rank. Top four rankers belong to BC category.

The scanned OMR sheets of the candidates will be available in the web site of SBTET. Rank of a candidate is being intimated through SMS to his or her registered mobile number.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao announced that laptops would be presented to 134 top rankers of the Intermediate examination, by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at a function to be held soon. He would also interact with the toppers.
