Police gear up for the big event

First Cabinet meeting of newly-born Andhra Pradesh to be held tomorrow

The city police are gearing up for the first Cabinet meeting of the residuary State of Andhra Pradesh, which is scheduled to be held here on June 12, at the EC Conference Hall of Andhra University.

According to the Commissioner of Police (in-charge) Atul Singh about 1,500 policemen will be deployed. Sources in the department informed that men are being drawn from other districts and various security agencies such as Andhra Pradesh Special Police, Greyhounds, Intelligence Security Wing, Special Protection Force (SPF) and civil police.

In Hyderabad, Cabinet meetings are routine and it is handled by the SPF, but since it is being held at a different location for the first time, security has to be given utmost importance, said Mr. Atul Singh. He further added that security has been beefed up in the Agency areas to curb infiltration of Maoists to the plain areas.

Nineteen Cabinet Ministers and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will be attending the meeting. Mr. Chandrababu Naidu is categorised under the Z-Plus security segment, post attempt on his life at Alipiri in Tirupati on October 1, 2003.

He was then the Chief Minister of undivided AP and the Maoists had triggered a claymore mine on the Alipiri ghat road, while he was proceeding towards the hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara.

The Chief Minister is likely to stay in the Circuit House and a full dry run will be conducted by the Anti Sabotage Check team and Bomb Disposal Squad from the airport and along the proposed route to the venues on Wednesday. Additional Director General of Police N. Sambasiva Rao is expected to arrive on Wednesday to check on the arrangements.

Sources within the security wing, informed that apart from the dry run, the route and venues will once again be sanitised by the Road Opening Party, 24 hours before the arrival of the VVIPs and will be repeated by the Anti Sabotage Check Team, three hours before the event.
