Police action draws flak

December 23, 2014 12:44 am | Updated April 07, 2016 05:25 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

A tense situation prevailed with heavy deployment of police forces to foil the attempt by CITU-affiliated Gangavaram Port Employees’ Union to stage protest in front of the main gate of the port on Tuesday.

Union honorary president B. Ganga Rao on Monday came down heavily on the repeated announcements by the police in microphone to dissuade the employees from taking part in the protest.

He said the police had announced that after promulgation of Section 34 of IPC, assembly of workers would not be allowed.

Mr. Rao said they had declared a plan to hold a ‘maha dharna’ in front of the main gate of the private port to press for their just demands.
