There is something quite charming about the hand spun fabrics, especially when they are speckled with a whole range of contemporary patterns.

With a collection of rich traditional weaves designed intricately to suit the needs of the contemporary Indian women, Pochampally Handloom Park Limited has brought a range of saris, dress materials, bed linen, silk and handloom dupattas, cotton shirts, bags with a blend of leather and cloth materials, curtains and many more as part of its annual Pochampally Ikat Art Mela.

From subtle shades of breezy handloom weaves to a combination of silk and cotton sari of warp and weft creations and Pochampally saris in silk, cotton and spun yarns, the place has a lot to offer for those who like to experiment with comfort and style.

Innovative designs

Other than the usual geometric patterns of Pochampally saris, what brings a whiff of fresh air is the way the weavers have come up with a blend of innovative designs. Shoppers who made their way to the venue say that they look forward to such melas. “A hand-woven sari is very comfortable to carry off and goes well for any occasion. Investing in handloom fabrics will not only add value to my personality but also help contribute to the weavers,” says K. Vasantha, a shopper at the exhibition.

Besides a selection of saris in dark hues with contrast borders, a good measure of creams with brick red and black shades apart from grey with muted tones are neatly stacked on racks. The saris are priced anywhere between Rs.2,000 and Rs.29,000.

The mela, inaugurated by film artiste Bindu Barbie of Prema Katha Chitram fame, is on till December 2 at Lions Club near Ramnagar between 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
