Plea to fill teacher posts

‘There is shortage of 50,000 teachers in government schools’

July 29, 2014 01:07 am | Updated 01:07 am IST - VISAKHAPATNAM:

“Teachers are meant to teach and not clean toilets in the schools and cook mid-day meals for the students. To see the proper functioning of the schools, the government has to fulfil its recruitment criteria and teachers cannot be held responsible for everything,” said State president of State Teachers Union of Andhra Pradesh (STUAP) Kathi Narasimha Reddy.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, he said in the combined State, as per September 2, 2013, statistics, there were 76,651 government schools catering to primary, upper primary and high school segments and 25,000 un-aided schools, covering about 1.3 crore students.
