Street vendors of the city would be brought under the protective umbrella of Aam Admi Bima Yojana of the LIC in a pilot project being taken up by the Labour Department of the Government of Andhra Pradesh in association with the AP Unorganised Workers Social Security Board, Hyderabad. The scheme is being implemented by the LIC with the association of State and Central governments, Deputy Commissioner of Labour, Visakhapatnam, said in a statement issued here.

Under the scheme street vendors in the age group of 18 to 59 with sound health would be covered. The street vendor has to pay Rs. 200 per annum as premium, out of which the Central government would pay Rs. 100, in effect the vendor has to pay only Rs 100.


The street vendors interested in joining the scheme can get the application form free of cost from the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Labour, upstairs of Andhra Bank, Akkayyapalem.
