People in general are unaware of the history of the region and are totally ignorant of the contribution made by people from here to the industrialisation of the State, former Mayor D.V. Subba Rao said.

Recalling the contribution of late DLN Raju to the industrial development of the region, the former Mayor called him a pioneer who had inspired others to turn entrepreneurs. DLN Raju was a pioneer of the cooperative movement and was instrumental in establishing sugar factories at Chodavaram and other places in the district.

DLN Raju lauded

DLN Raju brought electricity to Visakhapatnam, the company, however, wound up due to poor management, Mr Subba Rao said, speaking at a function organised to mark the donation of an ambulance by the family of DLN Raju to the Vivekananda Medical Trust here on Monday.

Although people such as DLN Raju were pioneers and brought industrialisation to the State and the region, few are aware of their contribution as there is no documented record of their work.

It is unfortunate that sons of the soil who made it big were ignored when statues were installed on the Beach Road promenade. SV Ranga Rao was a thespian of immense talent, fame and achievement, yet there is no statue of his despite he being a son of the soil, Mr Rao said.

There are a number of persons from other parts of the State whose statues find a place on the promenade, he pointed out.

He complimented DSN Raju for carrying forward the legacy of his father, DLN Raju, and also for paying for the ambulance for a trust that was doing yeoman’s service in providing medical aid to the poor in remote areas. Vivekananda Medical Trust chairman T Narayana Rao and secretary B Tirupati Rao received the keys of the ambulance from DSN Raju and Dr Lakshmikantam.

A large number of eminent citizens of the city attended the function.
