People affected by anthrax improving

Treatment is being given to the 19 Girijans who are suspected to be suffering from cutaneous anthrax, who have left King George Hospital in the early hours of Thursday, at their homes, DHMO J. Sarojini has said on Friday.

They are all progressing. The 19 Girijans from Panasaputtu village in Hukumpeta mandal and Vennelakota and Goyyagunta in G. Madugula mandal have left for their villages to participate in the Modakondamma festival without informing doctors at KGH. A total of 35 cases were reported from the three villages during last week.

In the ELISA tests done on the 16 patients from Panasaputtu by the DRDE laboratory at Gwalior, 10 tested positive for cutaneous anthrax. Two cows in their village also tested positive.

Treatment for cutaneous anthrax for the patients from the other two villages is being given based on the clinical tests and they are responding well, she said.
