The high-speed inshore patrolling ship ‘Rajdhwaj’, belonging to the Indian Coast Guard, was commissioned on Tuesday. Director of Ports P.M. Chandramohan was the chief guest at the basing ceremony held at KSPL Jetty.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Chandramohan said that it was the right time for commissioning the high-speed ship, as coastal security was gaining importance. He said that the ongoing exploration of oil and natural gas reserves along the coast and the sudden increase in industrial units in the coastal areas had thrown a new challenge to coastal security. He further said that the new ship would be useful for Coast Guard station to offer better services to people.
Commanding Officer of the Indian Coast Guard Station, Kakinada, R.K. Sharma, said that ‘Rajdhwaj’ was the eighth in the series of high-speed inshore patrolling ships.
It was equipped with ultra-modern navigation and communication system and was capable of undertaking operations such as patrolling, search and defence. A crew of 34 men and five officers would function under Commandant V.K. Paramar in the ship.
