Parents of Narayana e-techno School, Seethammadhara were taken for a ride on Tuesday when the students of SSC got hall-tickets to write the examination from two other schools of the city.
When contacted, District Collector V. Seshadri told The Hindu that he had asked the officials to take legal action against the school management.
The school opened three years ago had 92 students in the Class X this year. Three other schools with the same name are being run in the city of which only two have recognition.
Parents alleged that 17 students from Seethammadhara branch had been given hall-tickets to write the exam from two of the recognised schools in the city. Seventy-ive students got hall-tickets to appear the exam as students of Murali Madhava Vidyalayam School, Madhavadhara and VTS Talent School, Arilova. “We don’t know where these schools are,” a parent, Prasad Raju, said.
Shell-shocked parents raised slogans against District Education Officer K. Krishnaveni when she visited the school.
“We are doomed and our wards traumatised. As a corporate school, we had paid Rs.25,000 to Rs.30,000 per annum towards fees. Even in our dreams we didn’t imagine that this school does not have recognition,” D. Srinivas, a Naval employee, said. He along with other parents had also got the fees paid by them reimbursed by their respective employers based on ‘government recognised’ certificate submitted by the school management.
Krishna Prasad, an employee of a Telugu newspaper, said they were asked by the school staff to fill the exam application forms with a pencil. This helped the school management to enter the school name from where their children were shown as students, he alleged.
The DEO told the parents that they should have verified the recognition status of the school.
“We do put the names of unrecognised schools now and then in the website and caution parents on unrecognised schools through the mass media,” she said and promised registration of a police case and stringent action against the school management.
School principal N. Bhargava declined to comment saying he was new and joined the school just three weeks ago.
