Panels formed for BRICS forum meet

577 delegates expected to attend the conference

The second meeting of the steering committee for the third BRICS urbanisation forum meeting, scheduled to be held here from September 14 to 16, discussed the arrangements for the meet, security and other aspects here on Friday.

Principal Secretary (municipal administration) R. Karikal Valaven presided and discussed various issues with Joint Secretary to the Union Ministry of Urban Development B. Anand, Collector Pravin Kumar, Commissioner of Police T. Yoganand, Vice-Chairman of VUDA T. Baburao Naidu, Commissioner of GVMC Harinarayanan, Director (municipal administration) Rukmini, Director of National Institute of Urban Affairs Jagan Shah and district officials.

Mr. Karikal Valaven said 577 delegates from the BRICS countries and representatives of finance development institutions, industries, research and academic institutions, FICCI, World Economic Forum, KFW and other institutions would be attending the forum meeting and invitations would be sent to them by August 5. Since the time is short, it was decided to have a meeting every fortnight and officials would report the progress through social media.

Venkaiah Naidu

to inaugurate

On the first day, after the Chief Secretary welcomes the delegates, Union Minister for Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu would inaugurate the event and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu would deliver the key-note address. A plenary would be held on the second day on BRICS smart cities conclave and changes in climate in urban areas. The third day would witness plenaries on resilient water and sanitation management, new towns and regional planning and urban renaissance – new reforms.

Mr. Pravin Kumar has informed that the meeting would be held at Novotel hotel and an event management firm has been engaged. Committees for cultural programmes, publicity, etc. have been formed. Reception counters would be ready at airports at Visakhapatnam, Mumbai and New Delhi to receive the delegates. GVMC would take care of booking hotels for the delegates.
