Around 5,000 new voters added to existing 15.48 lakh voters
Filing of nominations for the panchayat polls in the district will commence on Tuesday. Nominations would be accepted till July 13. Though the polling would be held in three phases, the schedule of accepting the nominations, their scrutiny and declaring valid nominations is common for all the three phases.
Supplementary electoral rolls have been prepared for the Panchayat elections. Around 5,000 new voters have been added to the existing 15.48 lakh voters listed on the general electoral rolls prepared with January 1 as the cut off date. The new voters were included till the day notification for the panchayat polls was issued, Collector V. Sheshadri told reporters on Monday.
District Panchayat Officer Sudhakar and trainee Assistant Collector Krishna Bhaskar were present.
Also for this elections the contesting candidates have been allowed to obtain caste certificate manually since the process might take time if they apply through Mee Seva. The local Tahsildar has to certify that the applicant is filing nominations for the elections.
Voter slips will be distributed to the voters by the government three days before the polling day. Though the photo electoral rolls are being used the voter slip with the voter’s number on the roll would help in quickening up the voting process.
