CPI(M) on Friday organised a Maha Padayatra from its office at Maddilapalem to VIMS via Isukathota, Venkojipalem and Hanumanthavaka opposing any move to privatise VIMS.
City secretary B. Ganga Rao, who led the cadres demanded that the GO 33 on privatisation be withdrawn.
He said the Chief Minister promised to open the hospital within 100 days of coming to power.
But the outpatient ward in the super speciality VIMS was opened in February 2016 only after 48-hour fast by CPI(M).
The hospital was providing medical care to the poor and the middle class and the GO was issued by the Telugu Desam Party-BJP Government to privatise VIMS.
CPI(M) City secretariat member R.K.S.V. Kumar demanded that enough staff be appointed and funds released for the development of hospital.
Party leaders V.S. Padmanabha Raju and P. Mani and others participated.
