‘Oppana’, the traditional wedding dance of Muslim community in Kerala, a mix of classical and semi-classical dance performances and soothing music entertained the audience at Kerala Kala Samithi on Saturday who gathered to celebrate its annual day.
The samithi that was established in 1971 has been proactive in organising several cultural programmes and events dedicated for social cause such as blood donation camp, health camp and charity works along with providing scholarships to meritorious students.
‘Kathaprasangam’
After spending long minutes applying make-up, women and children appeared on the stage to present skits and dance for filmy tracks at the venue that reverberated with regional music. ‘Kathaprasangam’, popular art form of God’s Own Country, was also staged. To pay tribute to Malayalam actor Kalabhavan Mani who passed away last month, couples treated the audience to some of his romantic songs.
In the end, members of the samithi presented Rs.25,000 cheque to a patient who has been suffering from prolonged illness.
Malayalis who have been residing in the City of Destiny for several decades made their way to the premises to witness an impressive cultural show that concluded with a delicious meal.
President of the samithi N.M. Pillai, vice-presidents Krishna Kumar and Raji Thomas, secretary K. Sasidharan, cultural secretary Tulasiram, and treasurer George Thomas took part in the programme.
